SNIPPED/CUT/TIED: a featured event of Planet Connections 2017

The Plays of Desi Moreno-Penson come to Planet Connections thanks to Step 1 Theatre Project

Jazmyn Arroyo and Step 1 present Snipped/Cut/Tied: Una Noche de Magia Performing June 16 @ 7:00 PM, June 18 @ 2:30 PM, June 21 @ 9:30 PM, June 24 @ 5:45 PM, June 26 @ 7:15 PM, July 1 @ 3:45 PM at this year’s Planet Connections Theater Festivity

The festival runs JUNE 12 – JULY 9 AT THE CLEMENTE, 107 SUFFOLK STREET, NYC.

Nuyorican playwright Desi Moreno-Penson boldly presents a world of magical realism for the next generation. In her three short plays, Genesister, Let Mezaluca Buy Your Car, and Dead Wives Dance the Mambo, the audience is immersed in a world of novella, film noir, and menacing mamboleros styles.  “Snipped/Cut/Tied: Una Noche de Magia” takes the audience through a surrealist universe immersed in both levity and a scintillating darkness.

Desi Moreno-Penson’s plays have been developed and produced at Ensemble Studio Theater, INTAR, Perishable Theater (Providence, RI), Henry Street Settlement, SPF-Summer Play Festival, The Downtown Urban Theater Festival @the Cherry Lane, Urban Theatre Company (Chicago), among others. Her play Beige is the winner of the 2016 National Latino Playwriting Award sponsored by Arizona Theater Company, a finalist for the 2016 Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, semifinalist for the 2016 Princess Grace Award, and a semifinalist for the 2017 Blue Ink Playwriting Award sponsored by the American Blues Theater in Chicago. In addition, the play has received Honorable Mention on The Kilroys List for 2017. Another play Comida de Puta(F%&king Lousy Food) was the winner for the 2013 MultiStages New Works Contest, is a finalist for the 2014 O’Neill NPC, received Honorable Mention onThe Kilroys List for 2015, and received its world premiere production at the West End Theater, produced by MultiStages Theater Company,  and directed by Lorca Peress. Her plays Ghost Light, Devil Land, Lazarus Disposed, and 3 to a Session: A Monster’s Tale are all published by Broadway Play Publishing and her ten-minute play Spirit Sex: A Paranormal Romance, was selected for the short plays anthology “Best Ten-Minute Plays of 2010,” published by Smith and Kraus. Desi is a member of the Dramatists Guild, SAG-AFTRA, and the GTTRiver writers unit at the Lark Play Development Center.
