FAQs

General Information

What is Jay Michaels Global Communications (JMGC)?

JMGC is a boutique promotion and production firm dedicated to “creating visibility” for the independent arts. For over 20 years, we have specialized in supporting independent theater, film, music, and literature, helping artists move their projects from the page to the stage and screen.

Is Jay Michaels an “Event Promoter”?

No. It is a common misconception, but Jay is not a club promoter or a party organizer. He does not “promote” one-night events like dance parties, club nights, or social mixers. Jay is a Theatrical Press Agent and Strategic Consultant. His work is about building a professional brand, securing media reviews, and creating a long-term reputation for a production—not filling a dance floor for a night.

What makes JMGC different from other PR firms?

Unlike large agencies that focus on corporate or big-budget projects, we specialize in the “Indie” community. We offer a “guaranteed coverage” model through our internal multi-media platform and extensive network of arts blogs, podcasts, and local media partners.

The Partnership: Your Role in the Spotlight

What is expected of the performers, crew, and directors?

Think of us as the megaphone, but you provide the voice. For a campaign to be successful, the entire production team must be active participants. This means:
* Social Media Hustle: You must maintain your own social media presence above and beyond what our firm provides.
* Content Creation: You are responsible for taking photos and videos on your phones during rehearsals or behind-the-scenes moments.
* Collaboration: Share your posts and videos with us! When you create the content, we can disseminate it even further through our professional channels.
* Be “Interview Ready”: You should have interview ideas, anecdotes, and answers ready at the drop of a hat. The media moves fast, and being prepared ensures you never miss an opportunity.

Does JMGC guarantee ticket sales?

While we provide you with high-level exposure and the professional tools needed to build a crowd, JMGC does not guarantee ticket sales. We provide the spark and the visibility, but the production team must be deeply involved in the “final mile” of conversion. Our job is to give you the “Social Proof” and press presence you need so that when you ask an audience to buy a ticket, they have a reason to say “yes.”

Publicity & Promotion: The Basics

What is the difference between Promotion and Publicity? (The “For Dummies” Guide)

* Promotion is the “Invitation”: It is the active work of telling people the show is happening (social media, ads, special offers). It’s what you say about yourself.
* Publicity is the “Gossip”: It is when other people (reporters, reviewers) talk about your work. It builds trust because it comes from a third party.

Services & Personnel

What specific PR services do you provide?

* Press Release Creation & Dissemination: Professional releases sent to curated press outlets and investors.
* Brand & Image Consultation: Positioning your production for maximum attraction.
* Influencer Marketing: Connecting you with powerful voices in the arts space.
* Audience Development: Analyzing and growing your specific following.

Does JMGC provide “boots on the ground” for my show?

It is important to understand that we are a publicity and strategy office, not a street team. Jay handles high-level media placement, branding, and industry connections. We do not provide staff to stand at the TKTS booth, hand out postcards, or distribute flyers as part of our standard packages. Physical distribution and manual labor are the responsibility of the production’s own staff.

What if I really need a Street Team?

If your production requires a professional street team for flyering or postcard distribution, please let us know. We can hire outside professionals to handle this work for you; however, please be aware that this is a separate, additional cost.

Are there any other “extra” costs I should know about?

Our packages cover the strategy and management of your campaign. Specialized technical services or on-site attendance are a separate cost. Extra costs apply to:
* Travel & Attendance: If a staff member needs to travel to your location for rehearsals or show interviews, the cost of that travel and time is an additional expense.
* Technical Creative: Professional videography, photography, and high-end editing (separate from the phone-captured content you provide).
* Manual Staffing: Hiring outside professionals for street-level marketing.

Pricing, Results & Contact

How much do your services cost?

We offer a sliding scale to fit indie budgets. Individual needs start at $250, with full packages typically ranging from $500 to $2,500.

Can you guarantee a “good” review?

We guarantee coverage, not compliments. Peer reviewers provide honest, professional feedback, which is far more valuable for your growth than empty praise.
